Some of our book choices this year will be by authors we disagree with or the storylines will not be in line with our world view. This weekend I was looking for a novel for my oldest daughter that matched with our worldviews...and I couldn't find one and that got me to thinking. Does the novel need to be about my daughter to be fit for my daughter? Some of the best discussions our family has had have been about books or movies that we 100% disagreed with the protagonist or the style or the depiction. We are able as parents to reinforce our world view and also see into the thoughts and beliefs of our children and how they are processing the world. Our children are given the opportunity however sheltered to view another world, another point of view. And they are invited to exercise those muscles that they will need to be in top form when they are finally ready to leave the nest.
