In Genesis 15:17 Adonai is passing through the pieces that Abraham set up, as a seal of the covenant? Why is Adonai a furnace and a torch? Or a pillar of fire and a burning brand? Why are there 2 items? I could understand Adonai passing through as a pillar of fire by looking forward to the Exodus. Does the burning fire stick have anything to do with the lines in the bedtime sh'ma? And why did these two symbols come with great darkness?
