Shabbat

Misc

Thank you Rabbi.  Your explanation is quite helpful and eye opening.  Since I am not a convert but more of a "righteous" gentile then what should I do on Shabbat?  For the moment,  I may light candles, attend shul, take a very long nap and get in some study time. Of course Shul is here on- line with the A-T community. Sometimes I have had to do some work on Shabbat (which now I am grateful to know I won't be held accountable) however I do take the day off from my chores to get some much needed rest.  Is this a desecration by me towards the children of Israel?  I would really like "your" opinion.

I sure don't want to offend but I also want to observe the Creator on His day of rest.  (Thus the reason I brought up Adam and HaShem's desire that he keep that day holy.)  My intentions are not to interfere with those special commandments given only to the Isrealites but I am unsure how to fulfill a lifestyle of Torah Observance without doing something on Shabbat.  Would even saying Shabbat Shalom to folks be wrong?

I know I should just convert yet if I were judge I wouldn't allow myself to convert.  I would say I am not ready or have not done enough to be rewarded with conversion.

So the Christian Church really isn't doing anything wrong by their observance on a Sunday?  Jewishly speaking?  Even though the talmadin and Yeshua would have had their observance on Shabbat.

Shabbat

Misc

@jeffrey-siegel, Rabbi I am sure you have heard this question over and over again so please bear with me.

I receive a blurb of Talmud each day from Daf Yomi on Twitter. Today I read, S58 Talmud restricts non-jews from keeping Shabbat. This would lead Jews to believing he is a Jew himself and thus he would be considered stealing.

Ok so I knew there were prohibitions for gentiles and I am slowly coming to terms with them. Yet, I still haven't quite settled my mind. I have 4 questions...

1. Does this mean only DNA Jews? Not the convert or the righteous gentile?

2. If a gentile accepts Torah and a Torah way of life and did observe all the commandments of Shabbat, would he/She be desecrating the name of HaShem? He/She would essentially be leading others Jews to believe they are something that they are not.

(Note, in our 613 mitzvot class we had a lively discussion on desecrating the name of HaShem. I was quite engrossed into the study and thus the reason for my question)

3. Let's say I were to keep all the commandments regarding Shabbat but one. Would that be an acceptable practice for the non-Jew?

4. Adam was a non-Jew and was told to keep the 7th day holy. The children of Israel were specifically given commandments for the 7th day. So what is the difference between keeping the 7th day holy and the commandments given at Mt. SINAI?

I realize the high holy days are upon us thus if you are unable to respond until next week, I understand.

Shalom Rabbi.

Oh boy, as I stated during our mitzvot class that when i was told G-d was only a title I felt like I was off the hook, so to speak.  Lesson learned before taking another person's word as being accurate,  check with Rabbi Seigel!!!!

Thank you for your input Rabbi.  I am sure you have heard this from others but thank you so much for taking your time to teach us.  It means so much to me.  Personally I would be like a fish put of water if you hadn't come into my life to teach and encourage.  May you be blessed for what you are doing for us!

By the way, it wasnt that I didn't understand Talmud class but there were so many things to know about blessings that is seemed overwhelming.   I plan to go back through my notes and Berakhot 12 a and b very slowly to grasp it.  But that is for a different forum.

Shalom Rabbi.

I am curious and I brought this up during class.  I don't want to be disrespectful to HaShem or his name so I am not sure how to word this but I will do my best.

I was told the "word" g-d is only a title.  Thus saying the word was not saying his name.  Is this correct?

So let's say one hits their thumb with a hammer and out comes the "word" but not in the spirit of thinking of HaShem but from pain.  Are they desecrating the Creators name or actually performing a type of idolatry by invoking an unknown diety because their pain?

Thank you Rabbi.

Talmud class was very good but very complicated.

If a person calls themselves a Rabbi, is it appropriate to ask where they went Yeshiva? Or maybe I should ask what is required for a person to be called Rabbi?  Does a Rebbe go through the same process as a Rabbi?
