Kislev 19

Passing of Maggid (1772)
Rabbi DovBer, known as "The Maggid of Mezeritch", was the disciple of, and successor to, the founder of Chassidism, Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov. Rabbi DovBer led the Chassidic movement from 1761 until his passing on Kislev 19, 1772.

Liberation of R. Schneur Zalman of Liadi (1798)
On the 19th of Kislev of the year 5559 from creation (1798), Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi -- a leading disciple of Rabbi DovBer of Mezeritch (see previous entry) and the founder of Chabad Chassidism -- was released from his imprisonment in the Peter-Paul fortress in Petersburg, where he was held for 53 days on charges that his teachings threatened the imperial authority of the Czar. More than a personal liberation, this was a watershed event in the history of Chassidism heralding a new era in the revelation of the "inner soul" of Torah, and is celebrated to this day as "The Rosh Hashanah of Chassidism."

Rebbetzin Menuchah Rachel born (1798)
On the very day that Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi was liberated from prison (see above), a granddaughter was born to him -- the daughter of his son Rabbi Dovber and his wife Rebbetzin Sheina. The girl was named Menuchah Rachel -- "Menuchah", meaning "tranquility" (Rachel was the name of a daughter of Rabbi Schneur Zalman who died in her youth).

In 1845, Rebbetzin Menuchah Rachel realized her lifelong desire to live in the Holy Land when she and her husband, Rabbi Yaakov Culi Slonim (d. 1857), led a contingent of Chassidim who settled in Hebron. Famed for her wisdom, piety, and erudition, she served as the matriarch of the Chassidic community in Hebron until her passing in her 90th year in 1888.
The blessed Sages of Israel taught:

“Do not speak to your fellow man about a blemish as long as you yourself are afflicted with a similar blemish.” ~ Baba Metzia 59

My Rebbe drawing from the same Fountain of Wisdom taught thus:

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” ~ Matthew 7:3-5

I was watching, last night, Rabbi Alon Anava's YouTube on the month of Tivet. It was quite excellent however he said to not be surprised by a trial of your faith this month. The month of Tivet is about judgement.

Thus when I read this by Rabbi Nachman it seemed most appropriate for this month.

To taste the hidden light

One who wants to taste the taste of the hidden light – the secrets of the Torah that will be revealed in time to come – must elevate the attribute of fear to its root. This is done through Judgment. Examine yourself and your life and carefully weigh all your various activities and interests. This will enable you to dispel all your fears of people and forces other than God. These are called “fallen fears”. You will then be able to elevate your fear and attain true awe of Heaven. When a person fails to examine and judge himself, he is examined and judged from on high. God can use any means He desires to execute His judgments: He has the power to clothe them in anything in the world. All things are His messengers This is visible in practice. When something bad happens to a person, the precipitating cause often seems quite insignificant. One would never have expected such a tiny thing to cause such a train of illness, suffering and other dire consequences. What has happened is that the Divine decree against the person has been clothed in these mundane circumstances in order to send him what he deserves. However, when a person takes the initiative to examine and judge himself, the heavenly decree is removed and there is no need to fear anything. Worldly objects and occurrences will no longer veil and cloak God’s decree. Taking stock of oneself dispels the heavenly judgment, because the person is already sufficiently aroused and spiritually awake not to need things of this world to shake him. He has elevated fear to its root: he is not afraid of anyone or anything except God. This will enable him to attain God’s hidden light. Likutey Moharan I, 15

Everyone, Sunday I will be flying out to see my youngest son and two other grandchildren. I am beyond excited and also concerned about the weather. They are having 4 days of snow with highs of 5. My bones already hurt with that thought. Ha ha
I might be on here or might not over the next two weeks. My priority is hugging on my babies. Ok and my son but he isn't as much fun! Be safe over the coming days and those in cold country stay warm. Love ya all.!
So, we just got back from Colorado about an hour ago! On Friday the 22, the day before we left Colorado, we went skiing and snowboarding at the ski lodge. I was going down the ski hill for about the 5th time, and I was doing really good. I made it to almost the bottom of the hill, and I wiped out and banged my head into the snow (which actually felt more like ice) twice. I got a mild concussion and I couldn't remember going to the ski lodge, or skiing at all, and I couldn't remember falling (obviously). All I could remember was walking up to the fire pit by the building, and hearing someone say " Is she okay"?, and hearing my mom say " We need to get her to the local hospital!". My mom got really freaked out because she said I kept crying and saying " Where am I, my head hurts. I don't remember!". At the hospital, Hannah and her friend Alexis came in my room and kept asking me if I remembered their names and ages and birthdays. It was really cute and kind of funny! I have a bad black eye and a scratch right above my eye, and a bump on my forehead.

God Bless-- Harmony

5 of 9 of the story of The Seven Beggars

The Beggar with the Twisted Throat

But on the fourth day the children longed for the beggar with the twisted throat, and he came and said"I am here! Once before I blessed you that you might be as I am, and today I bestow upon you this wedding gift: be as I am!

"You believe that I have a twisted throat, but see, my throat is really beautiful and straight, but there are foolish and evil things in this world, and I would not have any of them come into me through my throat, therefore my throat seems twisted. It is really clear and beautiful, and I have a voice that is wonderful in song, for through my throat I can imitate the call and the song of every creature that lives! I have this power from the land of melody, for there is a land where everyone, from the king to the smallest child, is wondrously skilled in music; some play the harp, others the violin, and some play many instruments.

"Once, all of their greatest musicians came together, and each began to boast of his skill: one could play upon a harp, another upon a violin, and still another could play upon a harp and a violin, while there was one who said he could play upon every musical instrument; then a man declared that he could imitate the sound of a harp with his voice, and another could imitate the sound of violins, one could imitate a drum, and still another could make a noise like a cannon.

I too was there, and I said, ‘My voice is more wonderful than all your voices. For if you are such great musicians, can you bring help to the suffering nations?’ And I told them, ‘There are two peoples whose countries lie a thousand miles apart, and when night comes over those lands the people cannot sleep.

For with night, there comes a strange moaning and wailing, so drear,so heart-weary , that the very stones groan and weep. And when the people hear this sound, they too must begin to moan and weep; everynight all the men and women, and even the children of these countries lie awake moaning and weeping with the sorrow that is over them. And you, who are so skilled in music, can you help those people?’

"Then they asked me, ‘Will you lead us there?’. And I said, ‘Yes!’ So they all arose and I led them.We came to one of the countries, and at night we heard the strange moaning; then even the sages from the land of melody wept and moaned, but they could do nothing.

" ‘Can you tell me,’ I said to them, ‘where this sound comes from? ‘ "" ‘ And do you know? ‘ they asked." ‘I know. For there were two beautiful birds that had mated together, and they were the only two of their kind. But once they were lost, one from the other, and they flew everywhere, each seeking its mate, until they became weary , and their hope was gone from them, for they knew they were far from each other.

Each settled alone where it was; one built his nest in his land, and the other built her nest where she was a thousand miles away; now when night comes the two birds begin to lament, each for the other, and it is their moaning lament that the people hear, and they too must keen with the birds, until there is no rest for them at night.’

"The sages would not believe me, but said, ‘Can you take us to the bird’s place? ’I said, ‘I can take you there, but you will not be able to bear the weight of it by night or by day, for at night the lament is so great that you may not come near it, and during the day flocks of birds come to her and to him. to cheer them in their loneliness, and all the birds sing merrily until the joy is so great as to be unbearable: this joy cannot be heard from afar, but if you come near it, you will succumb’.

Then the sages asked, ‘Can you right this thing? ‘ And I told them that I could make my voice like the voice of any living being, and that I also could send my voice to all places on earth, so that it might not be heard where I stood, but would be heard far away."I said to the wise men, ‘Will you go with me to a place that is neither in one land or the other, but lies between them? For from that place I will send my voice with the sound of her voice to him, and I will send my voice with the sound of his voice to her, so that each will hear the other’s voice, they will listen, and tremble, and rise and spread their wings and fly toward the place of the voice, and so they will meet together where I stand.’

"Then I led them to a place that lay between the two countries; the place was in a forest, and the ground was covered with snow. I stood and sang, but the men could hear no sound come from me. Only they heard the sound of a door opening and closing, and they heard the sound of a gun, and they heard the barking of a hound as it ran over the snow for the kill. Yet they saw nothing. But I had sent my voices, and soon there were two pair of wings above us.

Then the men from the land of melody understood how I had brought the two birds together, and they agreed that mine was the most wonderful voice of all, for I could send it wherever I chose; and so to- dayI bestow upon you this gift: that you may be as I am."

He finished speaking, and all the beggars made merry, and sang.

@eliyanah-jordan-yarden I can't follow a couple of your kids. I was able to welcome Timothy and Kaitlyn but I don't want anyone else to feel left out.

Can you pass on that I said "Welcome" to everyone, please? Thanks. 😁😁😁
