Logan the dragon slayer:

We (the Town of Trade Lake) had received a picture for historical purposes from a resident who  had found it in an attic of some relative.

It was a big picture, hand drawn, and given to someone from his teacher as an award for keeping the best books for the Trade Lake Evening School dated 1890.

It was a picture of some type of deer with a person riding on it pointing foward with a banner streaming behind stating something about toiling in excellence.  The person riding it appeared in an ancient rome style dress with a band around his head.  It was not a horrid picture by any means, nothing spooky or evil looking yet, any one who looked at it  believer or non believer it didn't matter, would say something like "ick!".  This was a year ago and we tried several times to get people whom we thought would be a descendant to take it, no one would.

So there it sat on a bench just to the left of the door for a year.

The other week Logan (my grandson) was with me when I needed to go to the town hall to pick up some documents.  As soon as he stepped inside the door he spotted that picture and immediately asked, "Gramma, is that a demon picture?"

"Yes, I think so", I said.

"Well what is it doing here?"

"Someone gave it to us."

"Well what are you going to do with it?"

"I don't know, get rid of it I guess"

"You need to burn it!"

"yep" I said and on the way out the door he reminded me to burn the picture.  So I grabbed it and put it in the car and away we went toward home.  I put it in the garage and we headed for the house for some lunch and a few taskes that still needed to get done in the house.  In the meantime I was trying to figure out if I could do something with such an old frame.  Logan went out to play after reminding me several times I needed to burn that picture.  I finally headed for the garage and was met by Logan asking once again if I was going to burn that picture.  (Persisitant little guy).  So I turned around and headed back for the house to get my candle lighter.  He met me at the entry and asked, "Gramma, are you scared?"

"Nope," came the answer, "are you?"

"No"

"Well then you can have the honor" and I handed him the lighter and off to the garage we went.

I got the picture out of the frame and stepped outside where we would finally burn it.  It would not burn!  Tried as we would we couldn't make it happen.

"I'll get my knife and cut it up", he said and then couldn't find the knife.  Soon however he spotted his machetti on the wall and decided he would chop it to pieces.  So I opened the door and threw it out.  He went out after it and commenced to chopping as I went about my business.  Shortly he came in with several pieces about the size of a small ipad and said, "Gramma, this picture is bleeding on the back"

"What?"

"There is blood from this picture". So I took a quick look out the door and said "Grampa must have throw some kind of chemical out there."

To which he replied "It sure looks like blood to me".

Shortly thereafter his mother showed up and away he went.  I went outside to look and sure enough it was blood!  I pondered this for quite sometime before I finally realized that earlier in the morning I had found a chicken that wasn't doing well at all and asked Chuck to put it out of its misery.  Which he did and set it in that exact spot until he had time to take it out to the field for the coyotes.

I have not told Logan about the chicken as I feel he was right on about the picture being a demon picture and his insistance about getting rid of it.  I feel the whole blood thing was meant to be a huge boost to his faith and confidence in being a dragon slayer.
